Sailing Course Commandments:

  1. If a cadet has a medical condition or disability, the relevant information should be forwarded to: Sean O’Sullivan, Junior Organiser Kinsale Yacht Club.
  2. Reminder: The swimming test is mandatory for all cadets taking part in the junior sailing course at KYC for the first time. On the day of the swimming test an additional set of clothes should be brought to the club(the swim test is performed wearing normal street clothes)
  3. All cadets must be adequately clothed for sailing, have protection against sun and wind, have an EU buoyancy aid and have a change of dry clothes including shoes.
  4. All cadets most have a copybook pen and dry –bag.
  5. As the club does not supply a food service cadets should bring a packed lunch with them each day.
  6. Children under 12 years of age are not permitted to leave the club without written consent to be given to the course co-ordinator.
  7. In order to pass the SBSS levels, a completed logbook is an absolute necessity.
  8. Supervised lunch breaks: Feedback from parents indicated that it is preferred that these breaks be supervised, especially for younger children.
  9. A strict NO SMOKING policy applies during the sailing course.
  10. The sailing course is run by Kinsale Yacht Club under the Irish Sailing Association “Small Boats sailing Scheme”(SBSS).Progression through the scheme from one level to another is based on the young sailor participating in and completing the course syllabus, and achieving the prescribed standard of sailing for that level. The aim of the course is to ensure that all participants have fun and enjoyment while, at the same time, develop their sailing skills. Our objective is to ensure this aim is achieved by all involved.
