The ASM-Marine Frostbite League 2009 continued at Kinsale Yacht Club on Sunday 15th February. A building breeze from the South-West finally settled to a force 3 from the West allowing a triangular course to be set for the day’s racing in full view of Charles Fort.

Cruise To Cork Report

Last Saturdays sunshine lifted the Whitesail fleet on its trip All The Way to Cork. While the event was open to all, boats were invited to race or to motor sail at ones leisure. 7 boats chose to race and with a start sequence provided by Billy Joyce and Zoe on Magma we were away with a beat to Bulman and then a fabulous reach towards Cork.

The Sovereign’s Cup 2009, hosted by Kinsale Yacht Club, opened with ideal sailing conditions across the four courses. From the waters under the Old Head of Kinsale to Courtmacsherry Bay and the Black Tom mark, racing has commenced in uninterrupted sunshine and a moderate east to south east breeze.

The second day of the Sovereign’s Cup in Kinsale was sailed in sunshine with a moderate to fresh south easterly. The 138 competitors across six fleets had a riveting day on the water with challenging courses set for all the Classes.

With temperatures in the mid twenties, sunshine and flat seas, Kinsale’s outer harbour was alive with sail for the third day’s racing of this edition of the Sovereign’s Cup! Not prone to hyperbole, but the scene of 138 boats across four courses filling the foreground from Hake Head to Little Sovereign was a spectacle to behold.

Cork Takes Line Honours!

At 14.38 hours GMT Thursday Cork crossed the finish line in Table Bay and won the 4,300 mile Race 3 from Rio de Janeiro to Cape Town in the Clipper Round the World Race.

Cork In Collision!

A dramatic start to Race 4 of Clipper 09-10 in Cape Town saw eight of the boats cross the start line for the 4,700-mile race to Geraldton, Western Australia, while a collision between Hull & Humber and Cork resulted in the two teams returning to harbour.
