The Yachting Monthly Triangle Race 2016

The Triangle is a double handed challenge open to cruiser and cruiser racer monohull yachts of 25ft LOA or over ( with IRC certificates and an SSS base value or 24 or above, or a STIX value of 31 or above and a minimum AVS of 119. The race is run as an ISAF Category 2 event so there are a number of safety and qualifying requirements )

The event runs from Torquay to Kinsale Southern Ireland to Treguier Brittany and back to Torquay. The distance is at least 620 miles with at least 2 days are spent in each port with receptions, parties and even shore based sporting competitions laid on and there are always plenty of impromptu parties on yachts and ashore.

This year Kinsale Yacht Club has a particular interest in the race as we have 3 of our own boats competing int he race. They are:

Gerard and Mathilde Campbell on their Elan 31 "Cirrus"

John and Kevin Satallard on John's Sunfast 32i "Siboney"

Gary Horgan and Keith O Riordan on Gary's Dubois 45 "Lobster"

All three crew have completed pre- start qualification passages and have been doing trojan work in prpeparing their boats over the last twelve months.

We wish them the best of luck as they start the 1st leg to Kinsale at 1400hrs tomorrow. You get more information on the race website here and you can also follow the boats on AIS here by searching for the boats name or by zooming in on the race area.
