ASM KINSALE FROSTBITE SERIES
The 2011 ASM Kinsale Frostbite Series is over! Four Sundays out of the six scheduled were raceable and a total of eleven races were run for the various Laser denominations, the Squibs and the Mixed Dinghies.
Conditions ranged from light with strong tides on the opening weekend through fresh and wet weekends ending up with perfect 15 knots winds and bright sunshine on the last weekend. The two Sundays that were lost were one to no wind and one to full gales.
With over 40 boats competing numbers were up on previous years, especially in the Squib class that counted now less than 13 entries. Racing was organised again by Bruce Matthews and his solid team who spent their time on board Bruce’s great Grand Banks Committee Boat the Destiny.
The prizegiving for the series was held at the half time break of the Ireland v Scotland Six Nations match in the clubhouse. The Laser Standard Class was won by Rob Howe of the Royal Cork YC, the Laser Radial Class was won by Eoghan Cudmore of Kinsale YC, the Laser 4.7 was won by Dara O’Shea of Kinsale YC, the Squibs was won by Meagan and Marcus Hutchinson of Kinsale YC, and the Mixed Dinghies was won by Brian Jones and Gary Frost of Monkstown SC in their 505.
