Rear Commodore Update July

17 July, 2015

Hi all,

After a very successful Sovereign’s Cup it’s time to get back to our usual housekeeping! As you are all probably aware, word has gotten around about the club chef Mick, club dining has become very popular again and we applaud the catering team for this great achievement. With this in mind, the catering staff have informed us that sailing suppers will be served on a first come basis, they have respectfully requested that on very busy nights, diners who have finished their meals might may way for others waiting and move to the bar area. I think this is a fair arrangement for everyone. Our chef has informed us that he will continue sailing suppers on the Friday nights while the TGIF’s take a well earned break for a few weeks.

Our club wine Guru Dave O’Hanlon has produced an updated wine list, these wines were chosen in a blind tasting by club members and are proving very popular, thanks Dave and the brave “Volunteers”!!

The Laser Regional Championships are the next big event for the club, running on the 25th and 26th of July. In order to facilitate arriving sailors and club members we will have sailing suppers on Friday 24th July from 7pm.

Kinsale Regatta will be on from Saturday 1st August to Monday 3rd , we are hoping to have a BBQ over the weekend and perhaps sailing suppers on the Monday from 6pm. We will update further closer to the weekend.

Sunday 9th August is the date for our very first Club Fishing Competition, Jack Hegarty is organising a terrific fun family day out, with entertainment and prizes galore, we will produce a separate update on this event due to the importance of such a great day out!

Yacht Services Ireland Squib Southern Championship will be held on August 15th and 16th , we will update on that closer to the event.

Saturday 22nd August will see us heading to the Naval Base with Mary P!

This year’s Spalpeen Trophy will be held on Friday 28th August.

So it’s shaping up to be busy over the next few weeks!

Private parties for members are becoming very popular this year, this is a great sign for the club of how much our members are enjoying the wonderful club facilities and we thank them for supporting KYC. If you would like to book a function in Kinsale Yacht Club please contact any member of our social committee who are only too pleased to help in any way.

Happy Summer Sailing to all!

Dave Ross (Rear Commodore House)
