REAR COMMODORE HOUSE UPDATE SEPTEMBER 2015

Hi all, Not one of the best summers ever but still it was a very busy one in KYC! We have had some great events on and off the water and many club members held private functions in the club which is great to see. Our chef Mick Glynn is proving to be a great find for us and he should be supported by all members, the food is fantastic and sailing suppers are ongoing.

Before I continue we have some “Housekeeping” issues to deal with, firstly the pool room, as you all know the pool table was donated very kindly by the Nicholson family and is a terrific asset to us all, however in recent weeks damage has been done to the pool table itself which now requires refurbishing, pool cues and the ball holder are also damaged, not good news. I would like to remind you all that the pool room is for OVER 15’S ONLY unless a responsible adult is supervising. Any damage must be reported to Brian Hunt and paid for.

The second issue is club members parking on the slipway, this is causing problems for other users of the slipway on a regular basis and is not acceptable, please find an alternative parking spot.

This Saturday 5th is the Black Tom Race First Gun 13.55

Sunday 13th is the KINSALE AT HOME which is a great club day out, the club will provide a FREE BBQ TO MEMBERS ON PRODUCTION OF THEIR MEMBERSHIP CARD, non members will be charged on the day.

Irish Dragon South Coast Championship September 18th to 20th

Ireland Junior Helmsman Championship 26th and 27th

Of course after a hard summer on the water we need some “downtime”! On Friday 25th of September we will hold our “END OF SUMMER (IF THAT’S WHAT IT WAS!)” CLUB NIGHT! This was a great night last year and very well supported, it’s your last chance to wear your “Flowery Shirt” before you mothball it for 2016!

There has been a great resurgence in JUNIOR SAILING this summer and we have quite a few newcomers sailing on a regular basis, so with this in mind, and to encourage them and their parents along, we are going to use the 25th as a Junior Sailing fundraiser, tickets will be available shortly from the club bar for €25 and €5 from each ticket sold will go to the Junior Sailing Class, this is a great opportunity to raise much needed funds for the class so I would encourage you all to come along and bring your friends!! Great food and a disco with “Midnight Mark” our ever popular DJ!

Following on from the great success of the Club Fishing Competition, we have been challenged by Howth Yacht Club to a SHARK FISHING COMPETITION! 4 to 6 members of the club required, please contact Jack Hegarty if you are interested jack@jackhegarty.ie

That neatly brings us along to the end of the month and start of October, but before I go, I would like to give you a date for your diary, THE LAYING UP SUPPER 2015 will be held on Friday 6th November, we will notify you when tickets are available for sale and I would like to remind you that as tickets are limited, they must be paid for at the time of booking, this is only fair to all members and will avoid disappointment to others.

As the season is drawing to a close and the mornings/evenings are getting colder, I would like to let you know that we have a limited number of KYC jackets available for sale in the office, these would make a great Christmas present (It will be here before we know it!!)

As always, if you are interested in booking a private function in KYC, please contact any member of the social committee, who are only too willing to help in any way. The social committee are beavering away in the background organising the upcoming events for the Autumn/Winter Season, if you have any suggestions for us, please get in touch!

See you in the Club! Dave Ross
