REAR COMMODORE HOUSE AUGUST 2016 UPDATE
Hi everyone,
I would like to begin this update by sending our congratulations to Darragh O’Sullivan who is now the Laser Full Rig National Champion! Darragh won this event which was held in Galway Bay Sailing Club and this is a fantastic achievement for him and KYC, we wish him every success going forward! On the subject of brilliant young sailors, I would also like to give a shout out to John Stallard and his team of instructors for the great success they had this year for the Summer Sailing Course, 96 children took part over the six weeks which is a third up on numbers from 2015, junior sailors are the future of our club and this group is expanding on a continuous basis, John tells me that Junior Sailing Sundays will commence shortly, watch out for updates from this class! The Topper Munster Championship is being held this weekend in KYC on Saturday and Sunday and with up to 60 boats due, we would again beseech you to remove any remaining dinghys from the dinghy park (or they will be removed for storage and not returned unless a substantial donation to junior sailing is given, you have been warned!).

The Spalpeen Trophy is on this Friday 26th, all in with FG 18.55, this is a fundraiser for our friends in the RNLI and there is a fantastic line up, BBQ and an auction, our auctioneer again this year is Vice Commodore Dave Sull, to top that all off we have music by Rockin Gerry. Don’t miss it, promises to be a great night!

The following week KYC is hosting the 1720 Europeans from 1st to the 3rd of September.

Sunday 11th of September we have KYC At Home, FG 11.55 and as usual to show our appreciation to all the members who help out on a daily/weekly basis, there will be a FREE BBQ TO MEMBERS!

The Dragon Nationals will be held from 15th to 18th of September.

HOUSE STUFF! I know that some of you think we don’t listen to your suggestions or ideas but my friends you are wrong! As requested, our bar now stocks a fantastic array or top end Whiskey, Brandy, Gin etc. And having cornered the rep for Midleton Distilleries we have a further treat in store for you! Whiskey Tasting which will be held towards late September (they will
come back with a date shortly) This, they tell me will be a Taste and Educational Pot Still Whiskey Presentation AND Tasting. This is free to our members with a limited number of places available and so with this in mind there is an events book behind the bar, please book asap to avoid disappointment . If that was not enough, they will also give us a Gin Tasting Night, I will update you when I have further info!
Our social team are working away in the background to keep you all amused over the Autumn/Winter and with this in mind (and to get you thinking) we are going to hold a series of KINSALE YACHT CLUB CELEBRITY COME DINE WITH ME, we already have one club member on the books so if you would like to wow your fellow members with your culinary skills, you can contact our chef Mick Glynn (who will obviously be helping out). We are hoping to have this for November, some background piano music and craic, so get out the cookery books and dust them off! You can partake solo or as a couple, it’s up to you!

Our chef Mick informs me that the next Supper Club will be held on Saturday 24th of September (on account of sailing events in between) there will be another Supper Club on Saturday 8th of October, please book in advance.
I guess that is enough for now, busy few weeks ahead in the club. We are still taking bookings for private functions, the doors to the “old dining room” are installed so this room is available for smaller private functions and meetings, I think the ability of the club to have such functions will be a great asset to us all going forward, so give us a call if you would like to book this room, Mick will cater for groups of 15+.

Looking forward to seeing you Rockin’ for the RNLI on Friday!
