Vice Commodore Update

03 April, 2017

April update.

2017 opened with the fantastic frostbite series – more than twenty squibs, seven toppers and an eight mixed dinghy fleet. Well done to RO John Stallard, Destiny (Bruce & June Matthews), Michele Kenelly, Sue Horgan and Fiona Ward. Dave Boyd and Chris Clarke once again demonstrated “world class” excellence in mark laying.  Results available here.

The March League (sponsored as always by Frank Godsell) attracted a ten boat fleet and was a huge success - thanks to RO’s Seamus Caher & Denis Kieran (team Michele Kenelly and Fiona Ward). Results available here.

The 2017 racing marks course card has been sponsored and the marks are named accordingly. The printed version is available in the bar and downstairs office. It can also be downloaded here.

The Matthews Helly Hansen Spring Series starts on Sunday April 9th - the SI’s and registration forms are available in the downstairs office and here. This series looks like it will have an excellent entry, the Marina is a hive of activity with boats being fitted out and new competitors arriving every day. Race Officers Siobhan Keane Hopcraft, Denis Kieran and Seamus Caher plan an excellent event under the watchful eye of Cruiser Captains Stephen Lysaght and Dermot Lanagan.

KYC’s Hon Sailing Secretary – Mike Walsh – has produced excellent NOR’s, SI’s and registration documents for the above events. His skill and knowledge, built up over years at the helm of Sovereigns Cup, is exemplary. General cruiser SI’s and registration will be published shortly. Skippers are reminded that current ECHO and IRC certificates must be presented to the race office downstairs or no result will be issued.

The O’Leary Life & Pension Sovereigns Cup has achieved sixty entries to date and entries continue to roll in - it’s going to be a real cracker with excellent on the water and entertainment programs in place. Please note that the discounted entry period ends on 21st April. Register here. Best wishes to Kevin Murray our Regatta Director - we wish him a speedy recovery from recent illness.

John Stallard has preparations well in hand for the Half Ton Cup Worlds – Commencing 14th August (more later).

Neil J Prendeville tells me that KYC has been awarded the 2020 UK Squib nationals. At short notice, Neil put a team together and produced a detailed proposal complete with video. Up to 80 boats are expected.

Kinsale Yacht Club really has a fantastic “esprit de corps”
