Hi Everyone,

I would like to start off this update by sending on HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO MICHEAL O’SUILLEABHAIN AND MICHAEL CARROLL WHO WON THE ALL IRELAND JUNIOR SAILING CHAMPIONSHIP IN SCHULL LAST WEEKEND, way to go lads!!

John Stallard has sent me on a Junior Sailing Update which I will circulate with this house update to keep all club members in the loop regarding our younger members activities!

MARINA MATTERS!! Rear Commodore Marina Matthias Hellstern has asked me to remind you all to vote for KYC Marina in the “VOTE FOR YOUR NMU MARINA OF THE YEAR, GOLD ANCHOR MARINAS”, the details are on the KYC Website, a huge amount of work goes into keeping our 5 Anchors so please take a moment to vote for your club!

I must give a shout out to the Tuesday Morning Coffee Gang who meet year round in the club for coffee and scones and high brow discussions of Universal importance! This is a great way to catch up with other members and no forward planning required because everyone knows it’s on every week!
On that note, I have been asked if we could put on a Christmas Lunch for members and guests on Tuesday 19th December, let us know if you are interested please!

New Years Eve:
In the last update, I asked for anyone interested to put names and numbers in the blue book behind the bar, so far the page is blank so this is looking like a non event in which case we will discontinue, It’s a lot of work organising staff, entertainment etc. if it’s not well supported…..

As always, if you would like to book a private function in the club, a big thank you to those who have and to those who are booked in over the coming weeks, please contact myself or Mick, these functions are vital to the club coffers, especially over the winter!

Before I go MUNSTER V LEINSTER @2PM NEXT SATURDAY in KYC, should be epic!
See you then!
Sue Horgan

Junior Sailing Autumn Update:
Optimist Fleet
The fleet is currently split with the more experienced sailors participating in the RCYC Cobbler League for October. The least experienced sailors are continuing with coaching in Kinsale on Sunday mornings.
For November the fleet will combine and sail in Kinsale on Sunday mornings. For further details contact Conor Dillon.

Topper and junior Laser fleets.
Coaching continues Saturday afternoons for the month of October for both fleets. It is intended to run a 3-day clinic during midterm, details will be available at Saturday coaching.
Both fleets will participate in the RCYC November frostbite league and will have KYC coach support at the event. For further details contact John Stallard.

Junior Christmas Regatta
The Junior Christmas Regatta will take place on the weekend of 9 & 10 of December and is open to visiting boats from other clubs. The event will be for Optimists, Toppers, and Lasers. We will publish a notice of race shortly.

Junior Sailing Course
The Junior Sailing Course was a huge success this year with 100 children participating over the six weeks. My thanks to all participants, instructors and helpers that made it such a success.
We have already started planning for 2018. Our first challenge is to find replacement boats for the firefly’s as they are no longer serviceable (boats are over 30 years old).

Club Coaching
The club published a statement outlining its position on the coaching of junior club members last year. I’m attaching a copy for you to read if it is of relevance to you. If you have any queries please contact me.
Due to current Child Protection Legislation and Health and Safety directives the club has a responsibility to ensure that anybody working on the club’s premises is properly vetted by us. All coaches training children on the premises must be approved in advance by the club.

Position Statement Private Coaching
The objective of KYC Junior Sailing is to provide or facilitate Training and Coaching for all junior members of the club. We believe that all club members should have an equal opportunity to the club's resources subject to them having the capability to benefit from the activity.
It is our intention where there are sufficient numbers of members interested to support additional coaching for those qualified for national trials or teams to a standard that maximises their capabilities.
Club resources such as rib's and infrastructure are made available exclusively for club activities, this includes club supported coaching.
Those who decide to contract a coach privately will not have access to club resources where this activity was not agreed with the committee in advance of the coaching taking place. There will be occasions where the committee will agree to such activities when it is not able to support them through the club’s own internal resources.
The club and committee supports those members who strive to attain excellence in our sport. Members on occasion may need to employ private coaches to achieve this goal, it is our preference that members communicate with the relevant committee member before taking this route.
There are child protection legislation, health & safety, insurance and contractor clearance requirements to be vetted before an individual can work with children on the club’s premises.
