December Update from Sue Horgan

01 December, 2017

Season’s Greetings to you all,

The Christmas Spirit has well and truly arrived this week in Kinsale Yacht Club! First of all I would like to say a huge THANK YOU JIM GOOD, Jim arranged to have the windows on the Lower O’Connell St. side cleaned for the club while he was having his own windows cleaned, and they look mighty, thanks again.

Following that very generous deed and while discussing the whole issue of lights in the dinghy park, on the mast and balcony after sailing last Sunday, Syd Elliott offered a cash donation to buy lights, this offer was matched by John Godkin and Hasse Silferberg also threw his euros in the pot! The whole effect is wonderful so a huge THANK YOU SYD,JOHN AND HASSE!

Of course, after the good comes the bad! After all the bad weather we have developed a leak in the roof which now needs to be addressed, I have said it before, old buildings are money pits, must write a nice letter to Santa!!

Now that the club is looking really festive, and to be fair, the town is doing a fantastic job this year too, it’s the turn of the boat owners on the marina to do their bit and light up the boats for Christmas, it makes a tremendous difference to the whole Kinsale Christmas effort for locals, tourists and passers by, it’s not expensive to do and the visuals are worth it! So come on!

Sailing Stuff: The final race of the Winter League for White Sail is this Sunday 3rd December FG 12.25 with the overall prizegiving in the club afterwards, so Santa Hats please, this is a great fun event and competitive with 12 to 15 boats each week, don’t miss it!

The Gunsmoke Bell will, as always , be on St.Stephen’s Day 26th December FG 13.25

Christmas Regatta for Oppies, Lasers and Toppers is on the 9th and 10th December.

Squib AGM and Dinner will be on Friday 8th December

Club AGM will be on Thursday 14th December

Kinsale Yacht Club Kids Christmas Party will be on Sunday 10th December, word from the North Pole is that Santa is taking time out from this very busy time of the year for him to come and visit us, he is due to arrive between 2.30 and 3pm depending on Rudolf’s energy levels and any headwinds they might encounter!! Really looking forward to it!

Social Stuff: Munster V Ospreys @ 5.30pm tomorrow 2nd December, our chef Mick is serving dinner in the club tomorrow night, if you would like to book a table, give him a shout!

Christmas Lunch: Tuesday 19th of December, please book with Mick, this is proving to be a very popular event with quite a large number already booked in.

Adults Christmas Party/Dodgy Jumper Night: Friday 22nd December, the standard is high on the dodgy jumper front and the more DIY the better so the invitation/challenge to the parents of our Junior Sailors to take part this year stands, this is a great fun get together to get you in the mood for Christmas after all the shopping and stress in the lead up to the 25th!!

Private Parties: Delighted to see that some of our members have decided to hold their work parties for Christmas in KYC at a time of the year when the club can be quiet, we really appreciate the business and hope you have a wonderful night!

We are already receiving bookings for private functions and parties for 2018 which is great news for the club, and as always, if you would like to book such a function or party, get in touch, we are only too happy to help!

Merry Christmas to you all! Sue Horgan
