The Axiom Private Clients Spring Series 2024 reached its thrilling conclusion on Saturday, April 27th, at Kinsale Yacht Club.  The final day of racing unfolded with intense rivalry and superb displays of competitive sailing.

Under the expert guidance of Race Officer John Corkery, the day unfurled with a blustery North Easterly, an energetic sea state setting the stage for an unforgettable showdown.

After five races, with one discard, the formidable Nieulargo (RCYC), emerged as the indisputable champion of IRC Class 1.  Commanding the waves with precision and finesse, their victory was a testament to sheer determination and unwavering teamwork. Hailing from the renowned Royal Cork Yacht Club (RCYC), the Grand Soleil 40 showcased prowess, clinching victory in a competitive fleet of 13 boats. 

The battle for supremacy was not without its challengers. James Dwyer, at the helm of the restored Farr Half-Tonner Swuzzlebubble (RCYC), mounted a superb effort, securing a commendable second place.

Meanwhile, Stephen Lysaght’s Reavra Too (KYC) showcased unwavering resilience, claiming a well-deserved third place. Reavra Too’s performance was a captivating display of determination and grit.

In IRC Class 2, Kieran Kelleher’s Diamond (KYC) led the pack, followed by Waterford Harbour’s Sigma 33 Flyover and Padraig O’Donovan’s Chameleon (KYC).

In IRC White Sail, Alan Mulcahy’s Albin Express Apache (KYC) dominated proceedings, notching up an impressive five race wins and securing a commendable victory. John O’Connor’s Fast Buck (KYC) put up a spirited performance to claim second place, while Patrick Beckett’s Tofinou 8, Miss Charlie (KYC), sailed into third position, rounding off an exhilarating display of sailing prowess.  Nigel Dann’s Val Kriss (KYC) took third in Echo White Sail.

The 1720 fleet division saw Matthews Helly Hansen, skippered by James Matthews, clinch the top spot, followed by Bobby Nash’s 1061 and Michael O’Sullivans Dutch Gold in second and third.

As the final race concluded and the boats returned to shore, the clubhouse buzzed. Amidst a packed venue, series sponsor Tom Roche of Axiom Private Clients presented the awards, honouring the remarkable achievements of the competitors.
