The fifth and final race of the Union Chandlery Midweek Series 3 was held on Wednesday, September 9th.
Seventeen boats raced across six divisions, scored on both IRC and ECHO over five races.
Cruisers Class Captain Chris Stockdale was quick to thank the fleet at the prizegiving.
“I’m absolutely delighted with the turnout for this series,
Thank you to everyone who took part.”
IRC 1
Stephen Lysaght’s Elan 333 Reavra Too won the division despite missing the opening race. She took three of the four races she counted and signed off with the Race 5 win on corrected time. Dan Buckley’s J/109 Justus was second, having won the opener. Gavin Lawlor’s Elan 333 Genesis took third.
ECHO 1
The order flips under ECHO. Justus won the division from Reavra Too. James Lyons’ Cork 1720 Malarky was third after taking the last two races.
IRC 2
Mathilde Dingemans and Gerard Campbell’s Elan 31 Cirrus won IRC 2 with three race wins, including the final two. Samuel Cohen’s First 32 Gunsmoke II was second and never finished worse than third all series. Dave O’Sullivan’s J/80 No Notions took third.
ECHO 2
The closest division of the six. Gunsmoke II came out on top. Patrick Beckett’s Tofinou 8 1.70 Miss Charlie was second after winning Race 5, with Cirrus third.
IRC 3
Jakub Belica’s GK 24 Guinness Kann won all five races. Padraig O’Donovan’s Fastnet 34 Chameleon was second and Raymond Hanley’s Yamaha 25 Toroloco third.
ECHO 3
Guinness Kann won here too, the only boat in the series to take both the IRC and ECHO title in its class. Chameleon and Martin Hargrove’s Impala 28 Deboah finished level, with Chameleon second on countback from her Race 3 win.
“Our thanks go to Union Chandlery, whose sponsorship made the series possible,
and to Sales Manager Garrett Kelly, who rounded it off with an excellent prize-giving.”
Cruisers Class Captain Chris Stockdale.
Thank you to the race officers, the staff at Kinsale Yacht Club and those who work behind the scenes to get our boats out racing week after week.
