A message from the Commodore

Planning for sailing 2016 – Message from the Commodore.

2016 has now begun and we are considering all of our sailing plans for the year. It is important to plan well in advance and ensure that crews are informed what holidays they may need to book. The Kinsale Yacht Club calendar is now available and that will be very useful in considering what events you may wish to do.

It is important to support out local neighbours in Royal Cork Yacht Club during this year that is a “Cork Week” year. They have been very supportive of Sovereigns Cup and we should consider their event when planning for the season. It will offer great racing for both White Sail fleets and Spinnaker classes with an expected fleet of up 150 entries. Your Commodore’s “Meridian”, has entered to lead by example and it would be great if Kinsale Yacht Club could reach to more than 15 entries.

Minister Simon Coveney, who has been very supportive of Kinsale Yacht Club with the Dragon fleet and Sovereigns Cup, has requested that we encourage members to go and enter for Cork Week.

There is an Offshore class for Cruisers which may appeal to the “Cruiser Racer” similar to Meridian.

The ICRA nationals are in Howth yacht club this year in early June and that again is another event worth considering if you are interested in travelling to a new destination.

I hope that this message has prompted you to get planning for the sailing season of 2016 and I look forward to seeing you all on the water.
