Rear Commodore House July Update

14 July, 2016

Hi All,
The summer is slipping by quickly with no obvious sign of the weather settling  down for us! Having said that, the Junior Sailing Course continues and it’s encouraging to see so many out on the water daily! Of course the arrival of the beautiful Grace E on the marina brought a touch of the Med to us for a few days, we are really lucky as a club to have a marina that will cater for super yachts and look forward to visits from other super yachts in the future! On that note, our Rear Commodore Marina Matthias Hellstern has advised that as members we should respect the privacy of such visitors to our marina. I have also been asked to remind our members that the wearing of Lifejackets is compulsory when using any craft belonging to the club and permission must be obtained in advance of taking any club boat out.

Sailing Stuff: In addition to our usual Wed night/TGIF racing this Saturday July 16th  we have The Bulman Pursuit Race FG 13.55. On Friday 22nd All In Keelboat 4 and TGIF 10 FG 18.55. There is a Cruise to Sherkin Island on Saturday 23rd and of course on Sunday 31st Kinsale Regatta all fleets FG 13.55
Sailability will hold The Presidents Cup again this year in KYC on August 13/14th The Squib Irish Championship is on August 19/20th The Topper Munster Championship is on August 27/28th

White Smoke Cruise to Bullens Bay for Squibs and Motorboats (or yachts!) is on Sunday July 17th  at 11am.

For those of you who missed the Family Fishing Day, you really missed out! Jack Hegarty and his White Smoke Committee did a really amazing job, it was terrific fun and the fish BBQ was fantastic, this event will get bigger by the year! Well done guys.

CLUB DINING: Continues Wed/Thurs/Fri nights from 7pm with Sunday Lunch from 1-7pm. Club dining is becoming more popular by the week, no great surprise really, the food is truly fantastic with a very reasonable price list, so on that note: SATURDAY 23RD JULY  and SATURDAY 6TH AUGUST MICK’S SUPPER CLUB 5 courses €35 ADVANCE BOOKING ESSENTIAL! Saturday 30th July
Spanish Theme including his amazing Paella. Bank Holiday Monday 1st August BBQ from 4pm (weather permitting).

Any of you who are regular visitors to the clubhouse will have noticed our new bi-folding doors being installed, we will then have the use of the “old dining room” available for smaller functions/meetings etc. This will be a fantastic addition to the club bar area where privacy for these events has been missing. Our chef Mick will cater for parties of 15 upwards and his standard of intimate dining must be seen to be believed. Private functions are on the increase this year and it is a credit to our chef and bar staff that our club is being used in this way in a non Sovs Cup year when things can be quiet. As always, please contact me or any of the social committee to book a private function, we are there to help in any way we can.

Again I would appeal to our members not to park in the dinghy park, this causes problems for our junior members trying to enjoy the Summer Sailing Course, the club Instructors need to get the children in and out as quickly as possible so going in search of the drivers of parked cars is a delay they can do without!

Happy Sailing to you all and stay safe on the water!
