Rear Commodore House Update June 2018

06 June, 2018

Hi all,
Summer is finally here and lots of sailing for everyone! This is an important week in the sailing calendar because this Friday the 8th we have the Bertoletti Trophy in memory of our beloved Mario Bertoletti, who looked after us all so well for so, so many years. Because this is a busy night in the club, we will have a buffet rather than sailing suppers in order to feed everyone as quickly as possible!

We look forward to welcoming Patricia and the Bertoletti family back to the club as always.

The Round Britain and Ireland Race is in KYC this week, we welcome them and wish them safe sailing for the remainder of their two handed endeavour.

Sunday 10th of June is Sea Sunday in the club and Kinsale Meade is hoping to have a tasting of their new product, produced locally during the event. Any members wishing to help out in the club on the day should contact me directly.

The Yachting World Triangle Race is due in during the week of the 19th June, we welcome the competitors and wish our local Kinsale Yacht Club entries all the very best in this two handed race to France and the UK.

Our good friend Ron Holland is coming to KYC on Wed 20th June @ 20.30 to give us a presentation on his new book “All the Oceans”, as far as I know, copies of the book will be available for sale on the night and we are hoping (weather permitting) to have a BBQ. This event is also a fundraiser for Sail Training Ireland who train young people from all walks of life, The Spirit of Oysterhaven has been one such vessel over the years as was the Asgard before her. We have a group of young men from the yacht club who sailed on the Spirit and were so impressed decided to do this fundraiser, the fine young men involved are Sean O’Toole, Darren Kenneally, Jerome Arrigan and Ben Melito please give your support on the night!

The Squib South Coast will be held in KYC on the weekend of the 30th June/1st July, they will be having a dinner in the club on the night of the 30th @ €25pp and should book with Denis Kieran the Class Captain!

Thereafter we are into the Junior Sailing Course for the summer!

Rob Kenny our new chef is doing a tremendous job and ably supported at front of house by Paul. They are serving Wed to Sat nights and Sunday Lunch (which is fab!) Please support them and feel free to bring in guests!
And on that note, there is a large private function in the club, for one of our members on Saturday 16th so dinner will not be available on that night.

If you would like to book a party or function in the club, please give me a shout, we are always available to help out in any way and these functions are vital to the running of the club since bar takings are now constantly on the decline.
Looking forward to seeing you on the water and in the club!
Sue Horgan
