Day 2 of the O’Leary Life Irish Dragon National Championships got underway in much lighter conditions. Winds of 8 – 10 knots and a much smaller swell were favourable to boats who prefer lighter airs.
Phantom, RStGYC, sailed 2 great races to put them in first position overall – they now have 3 bullets from 4 races. The battle for 2nd and 3rd is being hotly contested with only 3 points separating 2nd – 4th place. In Race 3 Serafina, KYC, held off the challenge from Little Fella, KYC, to take 2nd and 3rd respectively and Ghost, KYC, took 4th.
Race 4 and in even lighter conditions Phantom lead from the start. With the wind dropping RO John Stallard made the decision to shorten the race at the end of the second run. MarJ, Adrian Bendon KYC, sailed a superb race to secure 2nd with Serafina 3rd and Ghost 4th.
With a discard due to kick in tomorrow, 3 races left in the championship and light airs forecast it is still all to play for.
