Bravo! Cian McCarthy and Sam Hunt sailing Cinnamon Girl – Eden Capital, a Sunfast 3300, for their impressive 2nd place finish in the SSE Renewables Round Ireland Yacht Race – IRC Two Handed Class.  Their tenacity and skill were on full display as they navigated the challenging waters around Ireland.  Check out the results here!

The SSE Renewables Round Ireland Yacht Race stands as a premier offshore yacht race in Ireland, recognized as the second longest race in the Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC) calendar.  Since its inaugural race in 1980, which featured only thirteen boats, the event has grown significantly, now attracting entrants from all over the world.

This biennial race tests the endurance and skill of competitors as they circumnavigate the entire island of Ireland.  Participants face diverse and often unpredictable weather conditions along the Irish coast, making this race a true test of maritime prowess.  The event’s growing international reputation draws a diverse fleet of sailors, from seasoned professionals to enthusiastic amateurs, all vying for the prestigious title.

Cian McCarthy and Sam Hunt’s near victory in the IRC Two Handed class exemplifies the spirit of the SSE Renewables Round Ireland Yacht Race – one of determination, resilience, and exceptional sailing talent.  Their remarkable journey on Cinnamon Girl – Eden Capital will undoubtedly inspire many and highlight the thrilling nature of this iconic race.

This year saw two boats from Kinsale Yacht Club enter the race.  A big shout out to Finbarr O’Reagan, skipper of the J109Artful DodJer, who unfortunately had to retire early from the race after months of preparation.  Artful DodJer also competed in the 2022 Round Ireland Race where she finished a laudable 3rd overall in IRC and 1st overall in the overall IRC Corinthian division.

Kinsale Yacht Club – Commodore Anthony Scannell was thrilled saying “We at Kinsale Yacht Club are super proud of Cian, Sam and Finbarr and the crew of the Artful DodJer for their fantastic achievements!”  Fair winds all!
