Kinsale’s reputation as a powerhouse of Irish sailing shone brighter than ever this February, with prestigious honours rolling in and one crew securing the ultimate prize, a berth on the world stage.
SCORA Recognises Kinsale’s Finest
The South Coast Offshore Racing Association’s (SCORA) annual Prize Awards for the 2025 season turned into a night to remember for Kinsale sailors, with one of the biggest-attended meetings in the Association’s history drawing the sailing fraternity to the Royal Cork Yacht Club in Crosshaven last week. A stellar 22 awards were presented on the night, recognising top-performing boats across multiple events throughout the season.
Flying the flag proudly for Kinsale Yacht Club were two standout boats. Finbarr O’Regan’s Artful Dodger and Alan Mulcahy’s Apache both earned well-deserved recognition for their consistency and competitive excellence across the season’s racing programme. Bravo, Alan and Finbarr!
World Championship Bound — Stockholm Calling
But perhaps the most breathtaking achievement of the month came from the team-racing circuit. Cliodhna Ní Shuilleabháin and Micheal O’Suilleabháin, along with their outstanding team, delivered a performance of the highest calibre at the ITRA 2K Eastern Championships, winning the event outright and crucially securing their qualification for the World Sailing Team Racing World Championships in Stockholm this summer.
Watch out, Stockholm – Kinsale Yacht Club is coming (“Aire ort, Stockholm – tá Club Luamh Cionn tSaile agus na O’Sullibhánaigh ag teacht!”)
Up Coming – Inishtearaght Skelligs Race
We’re seeing strong interest in the Inishtearaght Skelligs race sponsored by Cantor Fitzgerald. This week Blue Oyster from RCYC and John Treanor’s new NMD43 Christina entered bringing the current entry list to 12!
