Two of Kinsale Yacht Club’s Optimist sailors are heading home this weekend after a brilliant week racing under the Brittany sun.

Siofra Buckley and Jamie Blennerhassett represented Ireland at the French Nationals in Quiberon as part of the Irish Optimist International Development Team (aka Team Top Gun).

Both sailors spent the winter relentlessly training through gusty cold days to prepare for the Irish trials. The hard work paid off with a place on the national development squad and the chance to fly the flag for Ireland and Kinsale Yacht Club in France.

This week that hard work turned into brilliant racing under clear Brittany skies, against some of the best young Optimist sailors in Europe.

Team Top Gun will be back on Irish soil this weekend, full of stories from a fantastic week in Quiberon.

Well done Siofra and Jamie,  Kinsale Yacht Club couldn’t be prouder… Time to bust the tower…!
