Cork Week 2026 wrapped up in Crosshaven on Friday 10 July.  We had three boats out under the Kinsale Yacht Club colours. We shared a fourth with Royal Cork YC. The Artful Dodjer also raced under the Defence Forces Flag with Harvey Mathews running the bow of the J109. Two former Commodores were on the helm: John Twomey on Shillelagh and Anthony Scannell on Hansemer. Here’s how everyone got on.

Shillelagh Crowned ICRA Champion, the Highlight of Kinsale's Cork Week

John Twomey, Kinsale Yacht Club Commodore back in 1998, had a very good week. He took the Harbour Race by 40 seconds from Royal Cork’s Boekanier and racked up five race wins from eight starts. A costly penalty on Tuesday and a Thursday no-show cost him the outright Non-Spinnaker 2 IRC crown.  John finished second, three points behind Cavatina. The ICRA National Championship, Shillelagh topped the table with the number one spot. Bravo John!

Terrific work from Gavin and Grace Lawlor’s Elan 333 Genesis all week, placing 4th in Echo Class 2.  It was also great to see Genesis at the starting line of the recent Daunt Race.

Colman Garvey (RCYC) and Kieran Kelleher’s (KYC) quarter tonner, Illegal flies both burgees and gave a terrific Class 3 showing. Third in the Harbour Race behind BLT (Royal Yacht Squadron) and Symmetry (Howth YC), fourth in Class 3 IRC and second under Echo. BLT took the class outright, but Illegal was never far off the pace! Nice one Kieran.

Anthony Scannell, opened the week with a bullet for Hansemer in Monday’s first race.  Unfortunately technical failures caused Hansemer to miss a number of races.

In the Beaufort Cup Fleet, the Artful Dodjer under the Defence Forces SC Flag placed 2nd overall.
