Kinsale Yacht Club’s cruiser fleets enjoyed a five race moveable feast of sunshine and close competition in the Denis & Mary Ryan Car Sales TGIF Series 2, which concluded on Friday July 31st, with silverware decided across four divisions.

The story of the series belonged to Tom Davis and the crew of Creme de la Creme. Absent for the opening race of Echo 2, Tom shrugged off the setback in superb order, reeling off back-to-back wins and following up with a second and a third. With the discard applied, that scoreline was untouchable and the biggest fleet of the regatta, twelve boats strong, had its champion.
Patrick Beckett’s Miss Charlie took second, with Martin Hargrove’s Impala Deboah completing the podium.

Miss Charlie, Patrick Beckett’s elegant Tofinou 8 (video below), claimed the top spot under IRC 2. Michael Broderick’s Saoirse claimed second ahead of Padraig O’Donovan’s Chameleon in third.

Unlike ‘Beckett’s’ famous play, there was no waiting for Godot at the sharp end of IRC 1, as white sail class captain Alan Mulcahy steered the Dufour 44 to a prompt victory. Posting three race wins, Mulcahy held off a determined John Stallard on Siboney, with David Riome’s Sigma 33 Valfreya in third. Stallard did find his own success, guiding Siboney to the Echo 1 crown with a consistent series that included wins in Races 3 and 4. Meanwhile, Godot proved its dominance by also taking second in Echo 1 on count-back from Peadar Murphy’s 1720, 1601, after the pair finished level on eleven points.

Reflecting on the series, white sail class captain Alan Mulcahy  was in celebratory mood:

“Superb series, stunning weather.

Thank you for the very generous sponsorship Denis and Mary Ryan Car Sales.

Your support is hugely appreciated”
