Kinsale Yacht Club has confirmed the dates for the 2027 Sovereign’s Cup and named the team that will lead it.

The regatta will be sailed from Wednesday June 23rd to Saturday 26th, June 2027, with Michael O’Sullivan returning as Race Director and Anthony O’Leary again taking charge of racing as Principal Race Officer.

It will be the 17th running of an event first sailed in 1995.

Michael was the Director of the 2025 regatta. Anthony has been on both sides of the fence at this event. He set the courses as PRO in 2025, among them the fabulous ‘Jeanot Petch’ feature race. Long before that, Anthony won the Sovereign’s Cup itself on three separate occasions.

Commodore Anthony O’Neill said: “We are absolutely delighted to have Michael and Anthony on board for the 2027 Sovereign’s Cup. We had 95 boats on the entry list in 2025 and we believe that all crews were very happy with what the venue delivered both in the quality of racing and from a social perspective ashore. The 2027 dates are set, the team is in place. Put 23rd to 26th of June in the diary and we will welcome you to Kinsale in June 2027.”

Race Director Michael O’ Sullivan added: “It is fantastic to have Anthony back as PRO. He is sure to build a programme to test good sailing across all possible wind conditions and have everyone back to the marina in time for the evening entertainment.”
