Join author Katie Carr at Kinsale Yacht Club this Monday 22 June at 7:30 pm as she charts her remarkable kayaking odyssey through the Shipping Forecast: a moving tale of grief, family and the courage to keep paddling forwards (as seen on the BBC Travel Show)
Katie had never been in a sea kayak, but when her brother Toby died in the middle of his challenge to paddle in every area of the Shipping Forecast she honoured his memory by completing his adventure.
Five chapters of her new book, Thundery at Times, are set in Ireland including West Cork (Fastnet), where she paddled in 2023 at the Irish Sea Kayak Association Meet.
Katie will speak for the first time at Kinsale Yacht Club as part of the book launch.
Expect readings, personal reflections on loss and resilience and time for questions plus book signing. It promises to be a great evening.
Amazon: “Thundery at Times is not a story of battling high seas or completing daring tasks, but one of making your own rules and living life to the full. It is about finding joy and hope in nature, motherhood and middle age, in nurturing your own adventures and embracing connection and peace. It is a story of female resilience in the face of adversity; of staring down grief and asking, what’s possible from here?”
